GameStop to close at least 150 stores this year

After a holiday season marked by sales dips and losses in market share, GameStop Corp. has announced plans to close 2 to 3 percent of its physical stores. The Grapevine retailer said in its fourth quarter and full-year 2016 earnings that it’s shuttering at least 150 locations as it shifts its focus away from video game hardware and software and toward categories like technology and collectibles. In 2016, GameStop (GME) closed a net 119 video game stores around the world, finishing the year with 3,920 video game shops in the U.S. and 2,007 internationally.
